About The Artist
In addition to pursuing his photographic art, Will Skol is an accomplished graphic/interactive designer. He has provided visual solutions for a vast array of clients — from indie musicians to international brands — and has worked with some of Canada’s foremost ad agencies.
Skol’s photography stands in stark contrast to his design practice . It purely seeks to capture an idiosyncratic way of seeing, and exists outside of commercial preoccupations. The resultant visuals often depict man-made, but vacant, environments, that are rich with patina and include quiet, open-ended narratives.
Skol studied at Parsons School of Design in Manhattan, and at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in Toronto, and is a graduate of the college. While at OCAD, Skol enjoyed an interdisciplinary curriculum of experimental and fine art courses in addition to his core graphic design studies. This balance of approaches — that of the highly personal and often freewheeling, and that of the strategically constructed — remains at the heart of Skol’s photographic output.
Skol exhibits new work periodically, and his pieces are held in several private collections. He is a native of Toronto, and currently lives in historic Collingwood, Ontario, Canada.
